Regional resource centres

All these regional resource centres hold collections of key resources and offer distance enquiry and walk-in services to users in their region.

Africa

• Ophthalmic Resource Centre for Eastern Africa (ORCEA)
  Description: ORCEA helps develop and support the Vision 2020 programme and to provide the eye care providers in the eastern Africa region with the relevant information on community eye health.  It is supervised and directed by the Kilimanjaro Centre for Community Ophthalmology (KCCO). Services include: mailing lists for trachoma and low vision, patient education brochures (in English, Kiswahili & Masai) as Word documents for cataract, glaucoma, childhood cataract and trichiasis. KCCO also has electronic VISION 2020 plans, Community Eye Health Journal (for Tanzania) and a list of all eye care personnel in Tanzania.

• South Africa National Council for the Blind, Motswedi Information Centre,
  Description: We develop and distribute educational material relating to eye health, eye disease and blindness - and offer a walk-in and distance enquiry service. Books, pamphlets and audiovisual materials are available on loan free of charge. Photocopies of articles from ophthalmic and eye health journals are provided at a minimal fee. Information can also be accessed through subject files covering all aspects of blindness and eye health.
